A while ago, one of my reader-friends gifted me a set of flexible, stackable red bowls, and they’ve truly been a game-changer in my kitchen. These bowls offer several practical advantages:

  1. You can squeeze it into a small space inside your dishwasher.
  2. Easy to smash a recipe like guacamole or thick cracker dough up against the sides while mixing.
  3. They're lightweight and stackable.
  4. They aren't noisy when mixing things with a whisk or metal utensil. (I'm weird about certain noises.)

I keep a thirsty towel handy to absorb water that collects on top when they're upside down in the dishwasher.

Do you remember the portable vacuum sealer for Mason jars I mentioned some time ago? That post has become VERY popular.

Here’s a tip: Store the other half of your uneaten avocado in a pint-sized Mason jar. Seal it with a flat canning lid (reusable when not used for heat canning), and it will stay fresh the next day. It may darken slightly on the cut surface (depending on how ripe the avocado is), but it won’t brown nearly as much as when wrapped in cellophane.

DAY ONE

DAY TWO

Of course, results will vary depending on the ripeness of your avocado when you seal it.

Remember, vacuum-sealing is not a substitute for hot water bath or pressure cooker canning. Perishable foods must be stored in the refrigerator.

Hello, my bread-baking friend, Cleaning up your bread machine pan after using the DOUGH cycle doesn’t have to be a hassle! I’ve got a solution that works like a charm. Here’s the backstory: I make several batches of sourdough bread every week. Oh man, that dough is sticky! Especially if your recipe uses a lot of water. I used to fill the pans with water and let them soak, but that turned out to be "no bueno." Raw sourdough bits down the drain? Not a good idea. Those bits would stick to my...

If you're baking for neighbors or bringing food to a celebration in a disposable aluminum pan, here's a tip to make things easier and more successful. Always place the aluminum pan on a sturdy baking sheet while baking. Disposable aluminum pans are convenient but don’t conduct heat as effectively as heavier or darker cookware. Using a baking sheet helps to rectify this issue in...
